Preschool
Our Early Childhood program is an integral part of St. John the Evangelist Catholic School. All core areas of our curriculum begin in preschool with subsequent grades building upon the foundation laid during a child’s time in our Early Childhood Program. We offer a hands-on, developmentally appropriate curriculum based on current knowledge of early childhood education. Preschool through Kindergarten students will grow in their spiritual, cognitive, social/emotional, and physical academic skills by interacting with their peers, teachers, and environment through both teacher-directed small and large group activities, as well as through their play. These experiences will support their self-worth and prepare them for a seamless transition to our Elementary grades and the world beyond.

We encourage you to tour our school to learn more about the preschool programs provided by St. John Catholic School.

Requirements for Enrollment
Enrollment in the preschool program at St. John School requires children to be fully toilet-trained. A child enrolled in our program must be able to do the following on his/her own:

-
Communicate to teachers that they need to use the restroom before they need to go
-
Alert him/herself to stop the current task to go and use the restroom
-
Pull down his/her clothes and get them back up without assistance
-
Wipe him/herself after using the toilet
-
Get on/off the toilet
-
Wash and dry hands
-
Postpone going to the restroom if he/she must wait because the restroom is occupied or we are away from the classroom
-
Wake up during rest time to use the restroom if needed
We do understand that even fully toilet-trained children will occasionally have accidents. By definition, “accidents” are unusual incidents and should happen infrequently. In these instances, the teachers will help children to change their clothes, encouraging independence as much as possible. Frequent accidents may result in withdrawal from the preschool program for the current year with postponed re-enrollment the following school year.
Please note that we understand that children who are registered during the early registration period in the early spring may not be fully toilet-trained upon registration. The expectation is that they are fully toilet-trained by the beginning of the school year. If a child is not fully toilet-trained by the start date, parents should withdraw from the program and postpone until the following school year. Any tuition or registration fees paid to St. John School will be refunded upon withdrawal.
