Position: Third grade teacher
Education:
Bachelor of Science and Education from Central Michigan University
Professional Certification including 30+ hours of continuing education. I received my continuing education from Eastern Michigan University, Michigan State and Baker College. I enjoy taking college courses as an adult and consider myself a life long learner.
What year did you begin teaching? How long have been teaching at SJE ?
I began my teaching career in Lansing in1990. I taught accelerated 1st and 2nd grade for 4 years before moving to Fenton to begin a family. In 2007 I began teaching here at St. John the Evangelist. I am currently teaching third grade and LOVE IT!
Favorite subjects:
I have three favorite subjects; Science, because I consider myself a kinesthetic learner and truly enjoy making science come to life for the students by doing hands on experiments. English / Spelling, because as I see it, the English language is like a puzzle and it is a fun challenge to make sense of it. Religion is a favorite subject because of the security and peace I feel when we, as a class, have open, intelligent conversation about God in our lives.
Why I am a teacher:
I love being with kids and seeing life through their eyes. I have learned so much looking at problems and finding solutions using their perspective. My goal as a teacher is to encourage children to learn for the love of learning and not for the grade.
What I like most about teaching at SJE:
There are many reasons I love teaching at St. John but above all, my freedom to share my faith in Jesus is the top. I want my students to know that I love, trust and believe in all the teachings of the church. Hopefully, with God at my side I am able to show them that I walk the walk and talk the talk.
How your faith influences teaching:
Each day we are encountered with situations both academic and social that need solutions. My role as a teacher is so much easier when I can relate the solution to a parable, the beatitudes, and a verse to state what is morally right. The students understand and I know the parents here at St. John will be able to support and build on the concept. |
