PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Preschool Director
Reports to: Principal
General Description:
Under the general supervision of the principal, the preschool director provides the planning, organizing, staffing, and directing relevant to the preschool program, in accordance with the Catholic education vision and in compliance with state licensing requirements.
Duties of the Job:
A. Provides the leadership in the faith, academic, and administrative dimensions of the preschool program.
B. Formulates, articulates, implements, evaluates, and periodically revises the philosophy of the preschool program in collaboration with faculty, staff, and parents.
C. Develops and maintains a written curriculum
D. Maintains a continuous plan for the supervision and evaluation of the teachers and support staff.
E. Facilitates, coordinates, and nurtures an ongoing program to ensure the religious and professional development of the staff through opportunities for spiritual growth, faith sharing and Christian service.
F. Insures the maintenance and safety of the school buildings according to local guidelines and procedures.
G. Prepares and administers the preschool program budget in conjunction with the principal/pastor/business administrator.
H. Continues professional and catechetical development.
I. Establishes positive public relations within and outside the school/parish community.
J. Works cooperatively with the pastor and/or principal and/or the Office of Catholic Schools on relevant school-related matters.
K. Works cooperatively with the school advisory committee, when appropriate, in the implementation of preschool policies.
L. Develops and supervises before and after school care program
M. Performs any other job related tasks as deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal.
Required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform essential job functions:

Must be a practicing Catholic

Must have an in-depth understanding of the principles of learning, education, and management
- Must be highly motivated
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent management and leadership skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- An understanding of childcare operations
- Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends as necessary
- Must have an excellent understanding of early childhood development
- Candidate must demonstrate knowledge and sensitivity to the needs of children and have an awareness of educationally appropriate practices in early childhood or school age care, or a combination of both
- Must have experience in customer service
- College degree preferred
- Must obtain Director certification (must be obtained within 60 days of hire)
- Candidate must hold a current CPR, First Aide, and Medications Administration certification
- Employee must complete Diocese of Lansing, Protecting God's Children program
- Employment will be contingent upon the successful completion of background check and fingerprinting
