The teachers at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School expect students to read independently at home daily. Research shows that independent reading for pleasure has many benefits for students. It improves students' fluency and vocabulary, builds background knowledg, and increases the ability to empathize with others. Suggested daily times are as follows:
K-3 grades: 10 minutes daily (may be with parental assistance)
Grades 4-5: 15 minutes daily
Grades 6-8: 20 minutes daily |
